How To Start An Internet Business
Starting and operating an internet business is pretty similar with any other business, so the same basic rules apply. There's no cutting corners and/or over-night success just by going online. Here's a step by step guide to get you started.
Step 1 - Have Something To Sell. The very first thing to do is to decide what are you going to offer your customers. You can sell your own product/service or somebody else's. Once you have a good offer, you get it in front of people and sell it.
Step 2 - Get a Relevant Domain Name. That's your web address that people will type in their browser to get to your site. try to get a domain descriptive of your product, keep it short and stay away from hyphens so it's easy to remember.
Step 3 - Get Reliable Hosting. You'll need a web server to host your website. If you have a tight budget go for shared hosting (you split the server with others) otherwise get your own dedicated server. Things to look for when searching for hosting is good customer support. You're most likely to need help and a responsive and helpful support team will save you lots of time and money.
Step 4 - Build Your Website. If you don't have HTML knowledge I recommend using a content management system like Joomla or blog platform like Wordpress. There's a bit of a learning curve, so don't get discouraged when first diving into it.
Step 5 - Get a Shopping Cart/ Payment Processor. You'll need to be able to receive payments for your product/service. The easiest to signup for and use right away is Paypal - the most used website by people shopping online.
Step 6 - Build Your Customer List. This step is ignored by most of online businesses. Being able to gather leads and contact them is crucial. You'll need an autoresponder to get people email addresses and send them newsletters. Go for Aweber as it's one of the most reliable solutions.
Step 7 - Promote Your Offer. Optimize your site for the search engines (SEO) so it's easy for people to find you when searching online. This will take some time so to get customers fast just buy some traffic. The cheapest and most profitable is PPC - pay per click advertising that allows you to spend money only when people interested in what you have to offer are coming to your site.
Once you have all these, it's time to polish your salesmanship skills and start making offers.
Remember that no tool or system can replace hard wok, so don't go chasing every shiny thing or system that promises you to get top 1st position on google or hordes of visitors with the push of a button.
